P3 - Discuss potential barriers to effective communication




Barriers can greatly effect how well the audience takes in the information you are presenting weather it is trying to teach a class of students or selling something to a sponsor barriers are vitally important.
Some main barriers that we face in the office or classroom are:

• Sound
• Sound barriers come in many different forms from the audience to cars but it is vital you don't let them affect you. If the barrier is two people in the audience then you have to tell them to be quiet other problems could be mobile phones, if someone is on their phone it could distract other people meaning they don't take the information in as well.
• Other sound barriers would be objects like fans, air conditioning or car alarms. These can be quite mellow sounds or quiet but can still greatly effect the concentration of the audience.
• Physical
• If you are doing a presentation you need to make sure you have a clear view of the people you are presenting to rather than having an object in between you or even them facing away from you.
• Language or dialect
• You can not take it for granted that you will always be presenting to people from the same city as you or even the same country so you have to be clear and concise with what you are trying to  get across.
• If you are in other country or if you are talking to people who are then you have to take into consideration that their culture may find certain hand gestures or words or even body language as offensive and without taking this into count you wont be able to accurately pass the information over

The final barrier I am going to talk about is the speaker them self. If you are presenting to an audience you need to take some things into consideration like your hand gestures, if you are stood with crossed hands and slouching then it looks to the audience that you don't want to be there and you don't want to teach. But if you stand up straight and project your voice, use hand gestures, props and body language you can help the audience read your message.
